Melissa is a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW) and Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor (LCAC). Melissa has been providing clinical services in the Wichita area for the last 17 years. She has extensive experience providing services to individuals struggling with mental health and substance use disorders. Melissa is committed to partnering with clients to improve their overall mental health and well-being. Melissa utilizes a blend of EMDR, CBT, and strengths based therapy into her work with clients. Melissa believes the most important ingredient to successful therapy is the therapeutic relationship. Melissa strives to provide an environment that fosters acceptance, understanding, growth, and change. These methods promote healing and desired change in a unique, gentle and respectful manner.
Melissa obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Sociology (1996) and Masters of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling (1998) from Emporia State University. She also has a Masters of Social Work (MSW) from Newman University (2003). Melissa completed a six month training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) thru the Maiberger Institute. She received additional training and supervision in EMDR and is a Certified EMDR therapist thru EMDRIA. EMDR is an evidenced based treatment for treating PTSD and trauma. Melissa completed a six month certification in CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) and received a certification thru the VA Medical Center in 2011. Melissa is also a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator (CDWF). Melissa has provided supervision to both graduate students and master level social workers seeking clinical licensure. Additionally, she has served as an adjunct instructor at Wichita State University in the School of Social Work at the undergraduate and graduate level.
