Rita is a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW). She has been providing clinical services in the Wichita area for the over 16 years. She has worked at Family Consultation Services, the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility, COMCARE, and the Robert J Dole VA Medical Center Behavioral Health Clinic. She has had over thirty years’ experience in working with individuals to bring about change and improve their lives Prior to entering social work Rita was Director of Youth Ministry and taught both elementary and middle school. These experiences have taught her how to meet people where they are. Rita believes that compassionate listening is imperative in the therapeutic relationship. She believes all individuals have strengths, resilience, and dignity that drive all healing toward recovery. Rita taps into those qualities with her clients to develop a personalized treatment plan that will address their needs.
Rita obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Kansas Newman (1982) and completed course work for a teaching certificate at Wichita State University (1987) while raising her two sons as a stay at home mom. She completed certification for Youth Ministry with the Center for Ministry Development, Naugatuck, Connecticut (2001). She obtained her Master of Social Work (MSW) from Newman University (2003). She has also obtained a Master in Theological Studies from Newman University (2012). Rita has had training in several different treatment modalities. Rita has been certified in Motivational Interviewing and Moral Reconation therapy. She has had extensive training through the VA in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She was part of the DBT team at the Robert J Dole VA for over 4 years. She also has advanced training in grief and loss. Over the years, she provided supervision to both graduate students and master level social workers seeking clinical licensure.
